Contact Improvisation is a partner-based dance form based on the physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight and most quintessentially following a shared point of contact. The form was founded in 1972 by Steve Paxton as an integration of his background in modern dance and the martial art form aikido. This dance practice takes a look at the instinctual skills inherent in falling, rolling, counterbalance, lifting using minimal effort, centering/breathing techniques and a responsiveness to our partners and surroundings. Similar concepts are the essence of Wing Tsun, and together they create a dialogue where one's presence and awareness can be experienced through the body. Cole Henry and Jose Reyes have designed this workshop as an introduction to this skill and how it can be used in everyday life.
